"Why is it so hard for me to achieve success at the one thing I want more than anything else in my life? When someone tells me to make a wish, I wish for weight loss. When I lay in my bed and fantasize about a better life, I always think about what it would be like to be thin and healthy. I am smart, I have the tools, and yet I tend to sabotage those efforts." ~ Oxycise! customer

*A* FEAR of Weight Loss?
********************************

Is it possible that you might be unconsciously sabotaging your own efforts to lose weight?

Why do some of us feel anxiety about changes in our body, even when they are changes for the better?

Do we have a deep, hidden fear that by losing weight we may somehow lose an essential part of our selves?

An Oxycise! customer shares her fears and insights:

"My fear of weight loss should really be considered fear of the unknown. I have wanted to lose this weight for so many years now that I have lost count. The crazy thing is that I am the type of person that if I want something bad enough, I just go out and get it. I am not afraid of hard work. In fact, I tend to welcome a challenge. Why do I struggle with something that I want more than anything? That is a good question and one that made me sit down and really evaluate the situation.

"I believe that humans are very complicated in nature. Just like snowflakes, no two are alike, therefore, to be able to understand why so many of us are overweight and struggling with it is a near impossibility. I come from a long line of people who are overweight. I look at them and see general happiness. I know my mother struggles with arthritis, high blood pressure and the social aspects of being overweight however, she always seems happy and the person everyone gravitates to. She is fun, interesting, humorous and a delight to have around. People tell me I am just like her. Will I remain this way when I am thin?

"My husband met me when I was overweight. Granted, I have gained quite a bit since that first meeting but he has always said that he loves me just the way I am. I have often thought that he has tried to sabotage my efforts to lose weight by waving fattening foods under my nose when he knows I am working hard to get rid of the pounds. He knows that he must lose weight also but I feel he does not want to make the effort to do this. With me working so hard at improving myself, he feels that he is forced into doing the same. It may even be a control issue for him. Outwardly, I feel that he will be more attractive to his new and improved wife. I feel that with better overall health and fitness, our love life will improve greatly. I will feel better about myself and will ultimately be happier. The internal voice inside me may be saying something different. "He loves me just as I am. Will he love me if I change into someone he has never known before?" "Will I change into someone that will no longer be attracted to him?" These questions may sound ridiculous, however they are questions that have an impact on my success. I have often thought about what it would be like to be thin again. I have thought about running into an old boyfriend and showing off my great figure. "See what you are missing?" Then, I think, "What would I do if this person wanted me back. What would I do if any person wanted me?" Again, it sounds silly to think about this but it is the fear of the unknown that stops us from succeeding at our goals.

"I want a happy, healthy, long life. I am willing to do what it takes to attain that goal. My only question is how do I get rid of the fears I have outlined above? What will propel me into the weight loss mindset that will help me to achieve my main goal? Is Oxycise! the answer or should I start looking in the yellow pages for a good shrink?" (Merritt from Northern Michigan)

Kimberly Austin of Iron Station, North Carolina, writes, "Sometimes I think we have a hard time giving up the body we've had for so many years, even if it's not the body we want or the healthy body we need." Kimberly has lost over 20 pounds in a little over two months. She describes the concern she initially felt when her body started changing rapidly:

"As my clothes began to feel looser and I was wearing a smaller and smaller sizes and the smaller sizes began to feel looser and looser, and the scales dropped at a constant rate, I began to feel afraid, insecure, and thought I was losing control -- as if I was on a runaway train and I no longer had control of myself or my body. After I stopped Oxycise! for about two weeks and stopped losing, I began to feel 'in control' again and, fearing I might regain the weight I had lost, started Oxycise! again and began to lose weight again almost immediately. Perhaps things were just moving too fast. I just needed to feel 'in control' of my weight loss and have time to say goodbye to my old body and get used to the new one. I know I'll be better accepted by others when I am thinner and, according to them, I couldn't lose the weight fast enough. But I'm not doing this for them or their approval, I'm doing it for myself and what I feel comfortable with. After all, if I don't feel comfortable in my own skin, I'm not going to stay that way."

We believe Oxycise! IS the answer to permanent weight control. But weight loss involves emotional issues and habits as well as physical ones. Jill Johnson talks about her experiences in adjusting to her own 50 pound weight loss:

"I experienced similar feelings. In addition, many people around you start to treat you differently -- not always in a good way. Sometimes people close to you may experience confusion because you're making such dramatic changes, and on occasion that moves into jealousy and attempts to sabotage your hard work. They may also feel like they're being left behind as you progress.

"I recall some "friends" who made several cruel comments about me and to me because I started to tuck in my shirt and wear fitted clothes, rather than the baggy, loose clothing I had previously worn.

"I also recall being embarrassed and afraid to go shopping for smaller clothing because I was paranoid that the sales clerk would laugh at me for trying on clothes in the smaller sizes.

"Perhaps one of the most difficult situations is when we have used our overweight body as an excuse to NOT be successful (i.e. in dating or social situations) and then when we are no longer overweight we don't have any more excuse for our lack of success."

Jill stresses the importance of changing your mental outlook at the same time your body is making changes:

"Yes, it's true that you need to nurture your mind and emotions along with your physical body changes, and it can take months or years to get used to the '"new you." Be sure to do your part not to alienate others or to expect them to have the same determination to change as you have.

"As for me, having spent many years being chubby, and now having spent many years being slender, I must say that I really, really enjoy being slender."

*G* How Do I Get Started With the Oxycise! Program?
*****************************************************************

There are several different ways to get started on the road to permanent weight control and better health with Oxycise!

* It's essential to have either the Level 1 video set OR the book "Oxycise!" OR the "Easy Does It" Level 1 video set. Each of these methods includes all the "basics" you need in order to be successful with the Oxycise! program.

* It may be very helpful to have one of the Level 1 video sets AND the book "Oxycise!" because each method has its own advantages. (It's nice to be able to refer to the book for written explanations, and the video for visual instructions.)

* The following books are great "options" to add:

1."Chart Your Success" (practical tips and extra information about target heart rate, cholesterol, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, body fat percentage; how to measure accurately, height and weight charts, self-tests to help you determine your own personal best, pages for recording your progress, & more.)

2. "Fuel for Success" Are you giving your body the best food "fuel" possible? Great suggestions for healthier eating--but not a required part of the program.

NOTE: The Oxycise! DELUXE System includes the Level 1 video set (2 tapes), the book "Oxycise!", and the books "Chart Your Success" and "Fuel for Success". These items can also be ordered individually.

* After you have mastered the Oxycise! Basic Breath and the Level 1 workout, you may enjoy challenging yourself with new body positions to increase your strength and flexibility even more -- we have eight additional workouts to choose from! (see the website link below).

All Oxycise! products carry our 30 day money-back guarantee.
