*A* Oxycise! Troubleshooting
***********************************
A customer recently lamented, "I love reading all the wonderful comments from people
who are having such great results with Oxycise! but isn't anyone having any problems?"

I wrote back to her:
"Yes, we do have customers who feel discouraged at times or who feel awkward about
learning the breathing or who worry that results are not happening as fast as they should.
In fact, everyone who is successful with Oxycise! has had to overcome slow times and
occasional 'hurdles.' So please don't feel alone if you are having some problems -- that's
just part of the 'journey.' "

It's true! Even those who have had great results with Oxycise! have also had their share
of struggles. In fact, the biggest difference between people who failed and those who
succeeded is that the successful ones just didn't give up.

The biggest challenge in doing Oxycise! effectively is probably mastering the breathing.
Breathing deeply is a new experience for many people. Feel free to break the process
down into its basic components, and take whatever time you need to master each step.
(Jill uses this same strategy on her new "Easy Does It" Level 1 introductory tape.) It
takes time to perfect any skill, including diaphragmatic breathing, so be patient with
yourself. And if you have questions, write and request our breathing tips
(mailto:julie@oxycise.com ).

The same reader asked, "Doesn't anyone but me get sore from doing this?"

Some customers say they have not felt any soreness at all. But others have mentioned
feeling some minor aches and pains for a few days after starting a new workout. Let your
own body be your guide as to how hard to "push" yourself. Try to give yourself a good work-
out, but don't overdo it. You probably know your body better than anyone else -- "listen" to
what it tells you and go at your own pace. If a particular body position seems too hard or
causes real pain, just leave it out and repeat a position you have already done.

"Last but not least," our friend added, "I have gained a couple of pounds. Help, any
suggestions."

Jill has commented that she noticed "ups and downs" in both weight and inches during
the time she lost her 50 pounds. These fluctuations are normal. (You may even notice
that your weight changes by a few pounds from morning to evening.) Just be aware of
these variations and work toward a gradual, downward trend. Some people have reported
inch loss and weight gain at the same time. That's actually a good sign, because it often
indicates an increase in muscle mass together with a loss of excess fat.

Many people feel discouraged when they don't see results happening as quickly as they
would like. So try to focus on small improvements. Are your clothes fitting just a little
differently? Are others commenting that they see changes in your face? Do you feel a
little more "perky" or happy? Are you standing taller? Do you notice a firmer, stronger
feeling in your body?

It takes time and effort to reach any goal, and whether you are trying to lose weight or
just improve your fitness level, it's not an easy journey! But with Oxycise! you're on the
right track. So keep on breathin'!

*** JOANNE ***

"I have been on the program for almost six months along with my husband...we
are seeing great results... this program really works!!

"People really do notice and comment on how we both look. So glad we came
across this program..I got the book from the local library..let it sit on the table for
a couple of weeks. I thought that something this simple couldn't work. Read it
for the last week before taking it back and had the program ordered within a couple
of days. The plus is that my energy level is up. Also we both are getting back
into clothes we haven't worn for awhile.

I have Level 1 and Level 2 and alternate that with the Abs and Upper body video
which I think is awesome..love doing that one. I put a little smiley face sticker up
on the calendar each day I do the Oxycise...my husband also does all three videos.
I find we only miss two or three days in a month. We are going on vacation and so
glad we have the audio cassette to use in the car..don't want to stop the program for
vacation.

*C* Getting the "Feel" of Diaphragmatic Breathing
***********************************************************
An Oxycise! fan from Ohio shared a discovery that has improved her breathing:

June 14, 2002

"I just finished reading this week's newsletter and thought I would pass along how I figured out the 'feel' of diaphragmatic breathing versus chest breathing.

"I had trouble falling asleep one night and had changed positions for the 20th time so I was lying on my stomach again. I began to take some deep breaths, trying to relax and hopefully go to sleep. Trying to 'make myself relax', I concentrated on breathing in slowly and deeply through my nose and then exhaling slowly through my mouth. After doing this 3-4 times, I realized I was doing Oxycise! breathing. Because I was lying on my stomach, with the mattress working as resistance, I could feel my diaphragm push down and my belly go out with each deeply inhaled breath and I could feel my belly go in with each exhaled breath through my mouth. I did this a few more times and concentrated on doing an Oxycise! breath rep and included the pelvic tilt, abdominal lift and scoop and 3 sniffs and then exhaling forcefully while holding my abs tight and doing 3 puffs. I could really feel the way the sniffs and puffs worked my abs.

"So, then I switched and did an Oxycise! breathing rep, BUT this time I concentrated on doing chest breathing. The difference in the 'feel' of chest breathing was shocking to me. Taking in a deep breath doing chest breathing, I could feel my rib cage expanding and my shoulders going up, but no movement at all in my belly because my diaphragm hadn't moved. When I did a few reps of Oxycise! breathing using chest breathing, I could not get the same concentrated effort in my abs from the sniffs and puffs. I did a few more reps of Oxycise! breathing and concentrated on diaphragmatic breathing and working my abs with each breath to be sure I would remember the 'feel' of doing it correctly and the effort exerted on my abs with the sniffs and puffs.

"So, not being able to sleep one night really helped in improving my Oxycise! workouts because I had not been breathing effectively up to that point.

"I wanted to pass on my rather unorthodox way to get a better understanding of the 'feel' of diaphragmatic breathing versus chest breathing and the workout in your abs with the sniffs and puffs.

"Keep up the good work Julie. I really appreciate the newsletters."

PS - "My husband was not in bed when I was doing all this deep breathing practice. Makes me chuckle to think about what he would have thought if he was."

*F* How Do I Get Started With the Oxycise! Program?
*****************************************************************
There are several different ways to get started on the road to permanent weight control and better health with Oxycise!

* If you are just beginning to do Oxycise!, It's essential to have at least ONE of the following:

Level 1 video set
"Oxycise!" (the book)
"Easy Does It" Level 1 video set (moves at a slower pace, and has no floor positions)

Each of the three methods includes all the information you need to start breathing your way to success!

* It may be very helpful to have one of the Level 1 video sets AND the book "Oxycise!" because
each method has its own advantages. (It's nice to be able to refer to the book for written explanations, and the video for visual instructions.)

* The following books are great "options" to add:

1."Chart Your Success"
Practical tips and extra information about target heart rate, cholesterol, body mass index, waist-
to-hip ratio, body fat percentage; how to measure accurately, height and weight charts, self-tests
to help you determine your own personal best, pages for recording your progress, & more.

2. "Fuel for Success"
Are you giving your body the best food "fuel" possible? Great suggestions from Jill Johnson for healthier eating--but not a required part of the program.

After you have mastered the Oxycise! Basic Breath and the Level 1 workout, you may enjoy challenging yourself with new body positions to increase your strength and flexibility even more --
we have TEN different workouts to choose from! (see the website link below).

All Oxycise! products carry our 30 day money-back guarantee.
