*************** *** SPECIAL EDITION *** Welcome to the OxyChat! Newsletter, a weekly
publication to help you in your quest for the body you want and deserve! "The deep-breathing technique you have developed is so effective, so amazing. Not only has it helped me to lose weight, but more than anything I believe the deep-breathing has helped heal my body and restore my overall health... Amazingly my weight has gone from 410 pounds down to 200. Oxycise! has helped me in losing more than ˝ my body weight and I've never felt better. Oxycise! has brought about a mighty change and has given me my life back..." ~ Shaun Zimmerman ************************************************************ Metabolic Syndrome X, also known as Insulin Resistance Syndrome, dramatically increases your risk for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and premature death from heart attack or stroke. It is estimated that one in three Americans has it... but many people don't even realize it. The characteristic disorders present in Metabolic Syndrome X include: * Varying degrees of insulin resistance, often
leading to type 2 diabetes The current epidemic of obesity among children and adolescents puts many people at risk for insulin resistance and its complications. Pediatricians report that 7- to 10-year-old children are developing metabolic syndrome, obesity and type 2 diabetes--once seen only in adults. The more factors an individual has, the greater the likelihood of having Insulin Resistance Syndrome. Factors that may contribute to the development of this syndrome include being overweight and leading a sedentary lifestyle. It is also associated with having a family history of type 2 diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular disease, and a history of glucose intolerance or gestational diabetes. A few simple tests can tell doctors and patients who is at most risk. No single test can identify insulin resistance syndrome, but measurements of weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose tolerance can. One quick check that people can do at home is waist circumference. Men with 40-inch waists and women with 35-inch waists are at higher risk. On August 27, following a meeting in Washington D.C., a committee of experts from four top medical organizations--the American College of Endocrinology, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Internal Medicine--issued official guidance on how to diagnose the condition. "We fully concur that the emergence of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome is among the most pressing problems of public health in the developed world." ( http://www.aace.com/pub/BMI/findings.php ) THE GOOD NEWS The best news about Metabolic Syndrome X is that even if you have it, you CAN do something about it. Experts say that in most cases diet and exercise can take care of the condition. "Patients should make every attempt to reduce their body weight to within 20% of the 'ideal' body weight calculated for age and height. (The ideal diet for this condition is a low calorie, low-cholesterol diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and fiber.) And patients should incorporate aerobic exercise (at least 20 minutes) into their daily lifestyle. If both of these can be accomplished, most of the metabolic abnormalities seen in syndrome X substantially improve." ( Dr. Richard Fogoros, M.D., http://heartdisease.about.com/library/weekly/aa072502a.htm ) "Fortunately, the treatment of Syndrome X
need not require juggling a cluster of 4 or 5 approaches. If you are overweight
and insulin resistant, there is no question that your insulin resistance will
improve and your insulin and triglyceride levels will decrease if you lose
weight. A mere 15 pound weight loss will dramatically improve the severity and
risk of Syndrome X, including high blood pressure. A regular exercise program: 3
to 4 days per week for at least 30 minutes will improve insulin sensitivity,
lower triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol." ( "Metabolic Syndrome
X," by Vicki Koenig, MS, RD, CDN Losing weight may be much more than a way to look better, have more energy and feel more self-confident. It could be a matter of life and death. Can you think of a better reason for doing Oxycise? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ************************************* "My cholesterol lowered 30 points!! "I have done NO other exercise during these three months except Oxycise! breathing. I did no bicycling, no jumping jacks, no treadmill and no fast walking other than my normal routine. Oxycise! works." Nadeoui Eden ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "An unexpected benefit was the dramatic improvement of my cholesterol level which has gone down 80 points according to my last physical. Thank you for teaching me this!" Ray Johnson, attorney ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "...my HDL is higher now than it was when I taught all those classes and HDL can only increase through exercise. It was 72 when I had it checked in May of 1999 and when I was teaching many, many classes per week, it was 61. My body is obviously getting a more productive workout now with Oxycise! than with traditional 'heart rate-oriented' aerobics." Susan Madal * Individual results will vary. healthier than having a big belly. The fat that accumulates around your middle
is more labile, meaning it moves around more easily. This can have positive and
negative effects. It's negative because the fat can be released right into the
bloodstream more easily, ending up as triglyceride. It can be positive, because
you can lose this type of fat easier than the fat on your hips or anywhere else,
so you can be a thinner apple faster than a slimmer pear. If you're unsure of which body type you are, here's how to determine if your personal 'waist circumference' is putting you in a high risk category. Grab a tape measure and measure around your waist. Then measure your hips at their widest point. Divide your waist by your hip measurement. A Waist to Hip Ratio greater than 0.8 for women or 1.0 for men indicates abdominal obesity. Another indicator of high risk for Insulin Resistance Syndrome is a high body mass index. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a ratio of body weight to height and is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Federal guidelines suggest that people should keep their body mass index under 25. A BMI greater than 27 suggests abdominal obesity and insulin resistance. To figure your BMI see Jill Johnson's booklet "Chart Your Success", page 22, or use the following link: http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm If you don't want to do the math or even plug in your numbers, simply having a waist greater than 35 inches for a woman or 40 inches for a man means you're an apple. Jill Johnson says, "Fortunately with Oxycise! you can whittle away your waistline and improve your appearance and health."
