"In the process of becoming, the journey can also be the destination."

*A* The Process of Becoming
**************************************
Remember when you were little how people would ask, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Even though I'm almost 47, I still like to think about that question and the things I am STILL trying to become! I recently read an article called "The Art of Becoming" by Don Staheli (taken from his book, _The Principle of the Thing_), which offered some inspiring thoughts about self-improvement. I think his advice applies to all kinds of quests, including our efforts to become thinner, stronger and healthier. So I am including a few excepts here. I hope you find them useful!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How do we implement all the good things we learn? How do we act in line with what we know? There is something in our human nature that allows us to go on doing, time and again, things we know are not right, or at least not the best for us to do. This is particularly true if our less-than-best behavior is not illegal or harmful to others and we are not, therefore, forced to change."
"...it is important to realize that the goal is to be who we are, not who we think somebody else is or who others may want us to be. The obligation we have to ourselves is to develop what is in us, who we are inside. Others may give us input in the process, but no one else can really know what and how we should be."
"Remember that self-development is an ongoing process, not a solitary event. It happens a little at a time, as we learn how to do it. In fact, it really lasts a lifetime."
"People who expect to be everything all at once are generally quite frustrated much of the time. On the other hand, those who don't expect enough of themselves fail to make much progress. They often end up wishing they had done more, tried harder, and pushed themselves further. They are frequently jealous of the accomplishments of those who did pay the price for success. The key is achieving a good balance—doing our best, but not expecting more of ourselves than is reasonable...
"The most successful people set their own limits...they have chosen, in their pursuit of success, to limit themselves in certain areas. The interesting thing is that these kinds of limits will result in greater freedom down the road.
"...Discipline is the foundation of success. Disciplined eaters are thinner and generally healthier. Disciplined spenders are wealthier. Disciplined followers of religious faith are disciples indeed, and capable of loving and serving others. Those without some discipline usually wish they could be like those who have it...however, balance is important. We determine the level of success we desire and then practice the level of discipline that will allow us to achieve it. And the level will vary as circumstances change in our lives. The sad thing to see is someone who keeps saying he or she will practice discipline, but who keeps putting it off in a very undisciplined manner and then winds up frustrated and disappointed with life.
"Much of our sadness in life is based on wishing things were different. Undisciplined people are almost always wishing things were different. Those who have some balanced discipline in their lives may still want things to be a bit different, but, because of the limits within which they live, they see progress and maintain a lively hope that they will have what they want. Deep down, undisciplined people have a lot of hopelessness. In the back of their minds, they know they won't have what they want because they aren't doing what it takes to have it.
"...Life is a wonderful adventure in learning, sharing, dreaming, failing, starting over, and achieving..."
*** CHARLES and JACKIE ***
August 19, 2002
"We would like to compliment you on your exercise program, Oxycise!  Charles has been doing the program for 3 weeks and has lost 15 pounds. He lost 2" off his midsection, 1" off his waist, and one-half inch off his thighs. Jackie has been doing the program for 1 week and has lost 3 pounds. She has lost 2 " off her mid-section; 1" off her hips; and 1" off her thighs.
"We have done walking and aerobic exercises for years, but have never seen the immediate results that Oxycise! has offered. The results have never been as dramatic either. The best thing about your program is the added energy that we feel. What a lift! Keep up the good work!"
Sincerely,
Charles and Jackie Carroll
"Hello,
I have been doing the Oxycise! Level 1 for nearly two years now. I recently ordered the Level 2 and mentioned my success with the Oxycise! program to the kind woman at your Colorado office. I'm afraid I didn't catch her name. But she encouraged me to contact you and share my story.
"I am a 49 year old male with Systemic Lupus. It struck me when I turned 40. I'll spare you the long story, but it changed my life drastically. In fact, it nearly killed me before the doctors were able to come up with a diagnosis and thus treat the disease. For years I languished under heavy medication, particularly steroids. If you know about steroids you probably know that they have a bloating effect and increase the appetite. And the symptoms of lupus include arthritis so any kind of exercise was pretty much out of the question. Needless to say, I got huge. My bone density decreased. I was terribly fatigued. Cholesterol and blood pressure increased to the point where I had to take extra meds to keep them in check. I was a slave to dozens of pills a day.
"I had done some breathwork in the past and was a believer in Yoga. But not an avid practitioner. When I saw an ad for Oxycise!, I thought it made sense and I'd give it a try. After a week or two I noticed a slight drop in weight. After a month, I knew I was on to something. I kept up with it daily and it became such a joy to watch the pounds drop. It was only about 3lbs. a month, but I knew that a slow loss could mean a slow regain if I for some reason would stop. I lost 35 lbs. last year. I look like a different person. My blood pressure plummeted which I consider a direct result of Oxycise! I'm no longer on BP meds. My cholesterol also dropped significantly, whether it had to do with Oxycise! I'm not sure, but the loss of weight probably helped. That plus a newfound conscientiousness about overall health, such as eating better. My energy level has increased. Just doing the Oxycise! is uplifting. I still have lupus and its symptoms, am still on several drugs - there's no cure for that I'm afraid. But what Oxycise! has done for me could help other lupus patients.
"I would like to the spread the word about Oxycise! in the Lupus community ... Please pass this along to whom it may concern. I'm anxious to receive my level two video. I got an e-mail that it is on its way. Also, thank you for putting on the newsletter list. I wish I'd known about it in the past."
All my best,
Robert Wendell Mull
Happy Halloween!
ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS
A crunchy snack
This year when you carve out your pumpkin, try saving the seeds. Wash them thoroughly in a colander and put on paper towels to dry. Put them in a skillet with some butter and salt.* Stir until all seeds are well coated with butter. Bake in shallow baking pan for about 30-45 minutes in 250 degree oven.
* the original recipe suggests "about 1 Tbs. butter per cup of seeds and salt to taste" but you may wish to reduce the amount of butter or try substituting with a little olive oil.
