"I'm completely delighted with the results I've seen with Oxycise! I haven't lost any weight but definitely have lost inches."
~ Dani from Maryland

*********************************
*A* Success by the Inch
*********************************
You're doing Oxycise! faithfully and losing inches... but your scale shows no progress.... Don't listen to your scale! Inch loss is a great sign of progress--with or without weight loss.

Most of us are thrilled to see the numbers on the scale getting smaller. But we shouldn't rely on the scale alone because not all weight loss is fat. Losing excess fat is good, but losing too much muscle could actually create a bigger problem in the long run. Suppose you were to "go on a diet" and lose 20 pounds. With dieting alone (no exercise) as much as 40% (8 pounds in this case) of the weight you lost could be lean body mass. And since a pound of muscle burns about 45 calories per day (a pound of fat burns less than 2) you've just lowered your body's calorie-burning capacity by 360 calories a day!

* If you LOSE muscle, you'll have to take in FEWER calories--or else you will GAIN excess fat.

* If you ADD muscle you will RAISE your metabolic rate!

We lose muscle mass naturally as we get older. Exercise--especially strength-training exercise--is the best way to slow and reverse this process.

"If you've gained 10 pounds over a decade and you don't exercise, the problem may be worse than you think. Chances are you've also lost 5 pounds of muscle, which means you've really gained 15 pounds of fat -- not 10. And since muscle burns far more calories than fat does, the loss of muscle means you're likely to amass even more weight in the years to come."
("Looking After Your Body: An Owner's Guide to Successful Aging", Reader's Digest Association, 2001, p. 72).

The solution is to combine healthy eating together with regular exercise that will tone and strengthen your muscles. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn, even as you sleep! Fat is less dense than muscle.... less compact. So it takes up more room. Or stated another way, you could actually gain muscle weight and lose inches at the same time--because a pound of muscle takes up less space on your body than a pound of fat does.

Many Oxycise! customers have reported losing inches, reshaping, and fitting into smaller size clothes. And many of these customers noticed inch loss before they saw much change in weight! One woman lost 6% body fat percentage and 16 inches after doing Oxycise! for 4 months. Yet she didn't see ANY change on her scale during this time.

Oxycise! will help strengthen and tone your muscles as it revs up your metabolic rate to burn excess fat.

So if you're losing inches you're doing great! (No matter what your scale says!)

"I bought the Oxycise system back in April of 2001. I have the Oxycise! book, the instruction video, Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well as the commuter tape and the 'Fuel for Success' book. I kept with it for about a month and was very pleased with the results. I even told my friend about it and she got the videos as well. We were encouraging each other--until my husband lost his job. With him home it completely interrupted my morning routine. I tried to continue, but it was way too hard competing for the use of the TV and finding uninterrupted time by my self so-- after many false starts I just finally quit.

"I'm also in the 'pause' of life and that always adds a few extra pounds. This year (2003) I sort of gave up and decided I'd just have to be 'plump.' (very sad face) I even went out and bought a bathing suit which was more like my grandmother's suit! I wasn't pleased that I had to resort to such a garment, but at least I could go swimming and didn't feel too self conscious since most of my rolls were covered up.

"Then, about two weeks ago my neighbor was telling me about losing weight on the Weight Watchers plan. She looked great! Yes, I was envious. I even started thinking about maybe joining WW, so I too, could get rid of some unwanted pounds. But, something kept nagging at the back of my mind. I just knew I couldn't do WW. If I did and actually lost weight then when I went off the plan I'd just gain it back plus a bit more like all the other diets before. I knew in my heart I could not diet again. The weight would come back and it always brought a few more friends with it. So what could I do? From somewhere deep in my brain Oxycise! popped up!

"With renewed hope I got out the Oxycise! book and read it again. I went to the web site and reread more information. I even reread some of the newsletters, which I still get, BTW! Finally, I made the decision to give Oxycise! another try. But, I knew I needed to have Jill instruct me, and I also needed to find a way to do it without having to rely on the videos all the time. You see, I didn't want to have to compete for the TV since my husband is still home, although he is self-employed now. Also, I needed a way to do this on our camping vacations without a TV. Some people can just do the breaths, but I tend to get lost and forget my place all the time. I guess I just need Jill speaking in my ear! But, I couldn't figure out how to get Jill's instruction without the videos?

"A-HA! The commuter tape! I took some of the positions from the different videos and put together a workout just for me! I have a basic breath in between each position just like on the commuter tape, which allows me to really concentrate on the breathing. If I didn't have the videos and the commuter tape I couldn't have put this together. But now, I use my head phones with the commuter tape in my walkman. It WORKS! I no longer have to rely on the TV! But, when I get tired of the positions I've chosen, I just watch the videos again and chose other positions that suit me. Yreka! I've finally found the solution for me! Commuting in my bedroom!"

Update -- August 26, 2003

"I was on a camping vacation for one week with no TV and I used the commuter tape with some positions I had previously figured out which I could do in our tent-trailer and it worked! I'm proud to say that I actually did Oxycise each day on my camping vacation! This is a first for me! I never exercise on vacation!

"I'm so happy to finally get this figured out. I truly think I can stick with it now. I've not lost much weight, but I've lost 4 ½ inches in three weeks! I'm not concerned about the weight as much because I know that it will take some time to come off since my poor flabby muscles need lots of firming up. Besides, authentic diamonds take longer to develop than synthetic ones! So, I know it'll take some time before my inside body will be seen on the outside. YEAH! Finally a plan for even me!

"Just when you're ready to give up, then take an Oxycise! breath and keep going!"

"Hi, I just wanted to report that I used the Oxycise! driving tape during our recent trip from MD to Nashville. It was a 12 hr trip and I did all the driving; even though my 15 yr old tried his best to get me to let him 'practice his driving!!' We left very early in the AM and by 9 AM I was feeling very sleepy and working just to keep my eyes open. I decided to try the driving tape and was very impressed at how well it worked. By the end of the tape I was wide awake and feeling very alert! Thanks Oxycise! for keeping me awake and alert on a very long car trip!! I've lost 10 3/4 inches since June!! Thanks Oxycise!!"

DIETARY FAT

A study at Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, found that subjects who ate a diet with 35% of calories coming primarily from unsaturated fats (such as nuts, olive oil, avocado, and fatty fish, such as salmon) lost as much weight as subjects on a low-fat diet (with 20% of calories coming from fat). They also maintained their weight loss for at least 2 years, whereas those on the low-fat diet regained their weight quickly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The American Heart Association supports the new requirement announced by the Food and Drug Administration that will require food labels to list the amount of trans fatty acids in food products beginning on January 1, 2006."
Trans fatty acids, or "trans fats," have been "strongly linked to the development of atherosclerosis, the disease process that underlies heart attack and stroke.” Trans fats are essentially man-made fats, formed when manufacturers “hydrogenate” vegetable oils. This process causes normally liquid vegetable oils to become solid at room temperature. Trans-fatty acids are commonly used in processed foods such as commercially baked cookies, cakes, snack foods, chips, commercially fried foods, etc. Also some margarines.
Until the new labels appear in 2006, study the ingredients. Anything described as "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" in a food's ingredients is a "trans fat."
At work or at home, there are always better things to do than exercise (fun-wise, at least), but in the car, you might as well Oxycise!, because you can't do much else. By the time I get home from work, I've already done at least one full set of 30 repetitions, and I often have enough energy to do a video tape, too. Otherwise, I would just get home and collapse, like I always did before."
I have gone from pushing a size 14 to now a trim size 8. I have been and continue to be faithful to completing the routine on a daily basis. Since I am just under 60 years old, I am very pleased with Oxycise! Like many others, I have a treadmill and have had in the past many other pieces of exercise equipment and videos. Oxycise! is easy on my neck and shoulders (a Fibromyalgia problem) and I see and feel encouraging results. Thank you, Jill, for a great exercise program."
"Hi,
I am totally restricted due to surgery 3 weeks ago from ANY exercise or exertion. I panicked until I realized I could do the Oxycise! breathing in and of itself. I have been totally inactive, and very concerned about regaining weight and inches, but have held on all fronts and even lost a few pounds just doing the deep inhale with 3 extra puffs on the exhale. Amazing!! I am released by my doctor on Sept. 22 to resume exercise and can't wait to see the additional results. The bonus is that my doctor is amazed at my progress, very much of ahead of the projected prognosis, and I can only ascribe this to the benefits of keeping up with increased oxygen intake."
Could water be the "missing link" in your weight loss program? Here's a great article on the subject!
"Why Drinking Water Really is the Key to Weight Loss"
Don’t roll your eyes! The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can’t get rid of a little paunch here and there, you’re probably just not drinking enough water.
No need to get defensive. You’re actually quite normal. Most people don’t drink enough water. Most people are also carrying around a few more pounds than they would be if they did drink enough water. If you can’t seem to get that weight off, try drowning your sorrows in nature’s magical weight-loss mineral. It works, and here’s why:
“What on Earth is 'metabolism', anyway?” People use the term all the time, but ask them what it means and you’ll get all kinds of answers. Merriam Webster defines it as, “The process by which a substance is handled in the body.” A little vague, but that’s really all it means.
There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one everyone is talking about it the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs. Unfortunately, another of the liver’s duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can’t metabolize fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you’re also setting yourself up to store fat. “I’ve tried it and I couldn’t stand it!” The problem is that, though many decide to increase their water intake, very few stick with it. It’s understandable. During the first few days of drinking more water than your body is accustomed to, you’re running to the bathroom constantly. This can be very discouraging, and it can certainly interfere with an otherwise normal day at work. It seems that the water is coming out just as fast as it’s going in, and many people decide that their new hydration habit is fruitless.
Do take heed , though. What is really happening is that your body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of “survival mode”. It takes a while, but this is a beautiful thing happening to you. As you continue to give your body all the water it could ask for, it gets rid of what it doesn’t need. It gets rid of the water it was holding onto in your ankles and your hips and thighs, maybe even around your belly. You are excreting much more than you realize. Your body figures it doesn’t need to save these stores anymore; it’s trusting that the water will keep coming, and if it does, eventually, the flushing (of both the body and the potty) will cease, allowing the human to return to a normal life. It’s true. This is called the “breakthrough point.”
One recent finding, as irresponsible as it may be, that caffeine increases the body’s fat-burning potential has many people loading up on coffee before going to the gym. This finding may hold some degree of truth in it, but caffeine is, in essence, a diuretic, and diuretics dehydrate. Caffeine may increase the heart rate, causing a few more calories to be burned, but this is at the expense of the muscles, which need water to function properly. This isn’t doing your heart any favors, either. It’s already working hard enough during your workout. Never mix caffeine and exercise. In fact, your best bet is to stay away from caffeine all together. It’s a big bully that pushes your friend water out of your system.
Water is the best beauty treatment. You’ve heard this since high school, and it’s true. Water will do wonders for your looks! It flushes out impurities in your skin, leaving you with a clear, glowing complexion. It also makes your skin look younger. Skin that is becoming saggy, either due to aging or weight loss, plumps up very nicely when the skin cells are hydrated.
In addition, it improves muscle tone. You can lift weights until you’re blue in the face, but if your muscles are suffering from a drought, you won’t notice a pleasant difference in your appearance. Muscles that have all the water they need contract more easily, making your workout more effective, and you’ll look much nicer than if you had flabby muscles under sagging skin.
“Eight glasses a day? Are you kidding?!” It’s really not that much. Eight 8-ounce glasses amount to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you’re overweight, you should drink another eight ounces for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also up this if you live in a hot climate or exercise very intensely.
This water consumption should be spread out throughout the day. It’s not healthy at all to drink too much water at one time. Try to pick three or four times a day when you can have a big glass of water, and then sip in between. Don’t let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you’re already becoming dehydrated. Drink when you’re not thirsty yet.
Do you think water is yucky? Drinking other fluids will certainly help hydrate your body, but the extra calories, sugar, additives and whatever else aren’t what you need. Try a slice of lemon or lime in the glass, or if you really think you hate water, try a flavored water. Just make sure you read the labels. Remember that you’re going to be consuming a lot of this fluid.
It’s probably a good idea to stop drinking water a good three hours before you go to bed. You know why.
“How cold should it be?” This is debatable. Most experts lean toward cold water, because the stomach absorbs it more quickly. There is also some evidence that cold water might enhance fat burning.
On the other hand, warmer water is easier to drink in large quantities, and you might drink more of it without even realizing it. Do whatever suits you, here. Just drink it!
When you drink all the water you need, you will very quickly notice a decrease in your appetite, possibly even on the first day! If you're serious about becoming leaner and healthier, drinking water is an absolute must. If you're doing everything else right and still not seeing results, this might just be the missing link.
Comments and Encouragement from Jill Johnson
"When I say that I've maintained my weight for over 16 years, that doesn't mean that I have been a robot and never had any ups or downs. In fact, a few years ago I went through a very stressful year and I stopped breathing (nearly literally). Without realizing it, I found myself at 20 lbs heavier and 2 sizes larger. I couldn't believe it -- ME of all people.
"I remember looking at myself in the mirror and saying, 'Jill, you know what to do. Just do it.' I made myself start to Oxycise! every day, and once again was astonished at the transformation that occurred in weeks.
"So, here's what you do: Go get your video, turn it on, and BREATHE! Do the same thing tomorrow, and then the next day."
"Remember to Oxycise! with lots of gusto. Really pump the air in and out, and flex with lots of power. If you are anxious to speed up the process, go ahead and do 2 or 3 sessions a day (that's only 30 to 45 minutes of effort).
"The only secret I have for success (other than the Oxycise! program) is consistency and determination. Think about it all the time, dream about where you want to be -- and your mind will help you achieve those goals. The key ingredient is to DO IT!
"I wish you the best. Keep on breathin'!"
*** WENDY***
August 20, 2003
"Dear Julie,
Please pass on to Jill my gratitude for developing this routine. I am 46 and have had arthritis in my left hip most of my life as a result of being born without a hip socket. A rare but not uncommon disease for which only surgery (and often times multiple surgeries) is the solution. Since the age of 9 I have been able to walk on a "shelf" of bone (created after 8 other procedures failed) which acts as the joint. Needless to say, I do not have the full range of motion in that joint. My left knee is also impacted and the arthritis has plagued me off and on since my late twenties. As the pain worsened with exercise I slowly became more sedentary. Thankfully, weight gain has not been a problem because I get an immediate arthritis pain reaction to eating sweets and junk food. But exercise and muscle tone became an issue since nothing I tried could be done without pain.
"However, the gentle motions and isotonic nature of the Oxycise! routine has been a real God-send. Also, her manner on the Intro and level 1 tapes is so welcoming and sincere that I have been inspired to try and stay with this routine. I have been doing it on a fairly regular basis. I was slow to carve out time from my mornings at first, but now am doing the level 1 workout daily. I plan to reward myself with the level 2 workout tape in about a month. I am seeing and feeling gradual and definite improvement in my range of motion, muscle tone and overall positive outlook. Weight loss as I said is not a problem. I am 5'4" and 125 lbs. But it is beginning to redistribute itself and my tummy is firming up. Most importantly, my glutes and hamstrings are tightening and this aids my walking and helps support my hip and knee joints.
"I would recommend this technique to Chronic Pain Management Clinics if I were you. I am currently beginning such a program at Kaiser in San Francisco but I don't know how to approach them with this. I will probably just suggest it to fellow patients when the opportunity arises.
"Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and Jill for developing a gentle, effective way to promote muscle tone and well being. I know that weight loss is the big money maker in this day and age, but a full functioning pain-free life is also valuable."
San Francisco, CA
Here's an email conversation with an Oxycise! customer that may be helpful to others who are reading.
July 25, 2003
"Hi Julie! I keep reading all those wonderful reports of Oxycise! doing great things for people in just days and weeks. However, that has only caused great discouragement for me. I have been doing Oxycise! since 1/31/03. I do it 5 times per week. I believe I am doing it correctly. I follow Jill in the videos rather than any of her guests since they don't really get into it the way she does. I have even contacted you previously for clarifications.
"I still have high hopes for this, but I have had virtually no change since I started in January. I stopped weekly statistics since those were really upsetting for me. The only thing I can assume is that I am perhaps close to my 'optimal' results so that changes are minimal. I'm 51 (was 50 when I started), 5' 10" and currently weigh 128 pounds. I was about 131 pounds when I started Oxycise! and have only lost those three pounds in the last 2 weeks by very careful eating.
"I plan to continue Oxycise! since I do believe that deep breathing is helpful. Right now, I'm debating about getting my name removed from the Newsletter mailing. The only benefit I currently find in it is any reference to sales and tips.
"Thanks for letting me vent. I believe you have a great product and plan to continue it wholeheartedly. I just wish I could see some visible results. Perhaps all the improvements are internal only (and that's good too!). If you have any thoughts on what the problem might be, I'd sure appreciate hearing them!"
"Somewhat Discouraged"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Somewhat Discouraged,
I encourage you to have a body fat percentage test performed, with professional quality testing equipment, at a local gym or health club. At 5' 10" and 128 pounds, I think you may discover that your body is already low in fat, in which case it would be unrealistic to try and lose additional weight.

According to guidelines in Jill's "Chart Your Success" booklet, the weight range for a 5' 10" woman is from 132 pounds (for women with small skeletal frames and little muscle) to 173 pounds (for women with large skeletal frames and heavy muscle mass).

And for a woman age 50-60, a body fat percentage of 10% to 25% is considered excellent. (Body fat percentages below 10% are considered "risky" -- below the level that is normally considered healthy and desirable.)

So you are already at the very lowest end of the scale. If your bone structure and muscle mass is on the light/small side you're fine. But if you have an average-to-large skeletal frame, you may actually be underweight. I'm sure this is why you haven't been able to lose weight -- because your body probably "knows" that you don't need to. Our bodies are "smart". When we try to "starve" ourselves by drastically cutting calories, our body will automatically turn down our metabolic rate. I think the body may also "know" when it has already arrived at a healthy weight, and will do its best to defend that weight.

What Oxycise! CAN do for someone who doesn't need to lose excess fat is to help tone the muscles and maybe even ADD some extra muscle mass. In many cases people will notice inch loss and firming with little or no change in weight. You might even consider combining Oxycise! with weights -- to strengthen and build your muscles even more. Please read a few of the following testimonials, which we have received from individuals who are already fit and athletic, yet have reported benefits and improvements: www.oxycise.com/FAQ/athletes.htm

Jill has maintained her own weight and fitness for the past 16 years by continuing to do Oxycise! 4 or 5 times a week. She doesn't do any other type of daily conditioning exercise. So while it's true that our program caters mostly to those who are struggling to lose excess fat, we really believe that Oxycise! is good for EVERY body!

Best Wishes!
Julie

"Hi Julie! Thanks so much for your response. What you say makes very good sense. I guess I need to be grateful that I don't have to lose lots of weight!! I will continue to use Oxycise and if I can maintain my statistics for years to come as Jill has, then I will be very pleased!

"I like your idea of checking my level of body fat. I did that once several years ago, but don't recall what it was. Thanks for the suggestion. I will also look into the testimonials from the athletes.

"Again, thanks for taking the time to encourage me!"

*A* Is Stress Affecting Your Health?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Life Stress Scale was developed in the 1960s by two American psychologists to measure stress levels. The simple self-test assigns numerical values to different events in life.
"It is widely used today to assess the likelihood of certain individuals to go on to develop serious illnesses as a result of suffering too much stress in their immediate past. Doctors and researchers recognize that your risk of developing a stress-related illness depends on your stress score during the past year. Experience shows that at least half all people with scores that are greater than 200 go on to develop health problems, while this percentage increases to 80 if the score is 300 or over.
Click on the following link to see the stress scale:
http://www.pharo.com/health_and_healing/stress_and_bloodpressure/articles/hhst_02_life_stress_scale.asp  )
Most of us will score pretty high, just going through the normal routines of life. The GOOD news is that deep breathing is a proven remedy for relieving stress! (see http://www.oxycise.com/articles.htm#Stress  )
This makes Oxycise! a perfect choice for people who want to get in shape, but have busy, busy lives! Here are just a few of the many comments we have received from our customers who have found real stress relief with Oxycise!
"I have found that in times of stress, my reaction is to shallow breath (it's like a panic reaction) but the deep breathing not only calms me down, but helps me sleep better and work better. It is somehow very centering, if that makes any sense." ~ Annamarie
Jennings
"I started doing Oxycise! in March, after agonizing for over a month if I should order it or not... I'm glad I did! I have much more energy, I sleep better, I know how to breath if I get stressed or worn out (and it perks me right up)." ~ Dianne M.
"I have a job that is super busy and stressful this time of year, and I started doing O!, not only for the physical benefits, but also because it really does help to relieve the stress of the job. I wake up each morning looking forward to doing O! and knowing that in 20 minutes I will be fully awake, energized, and ready to start the day." ~ Mary Anne
"Well, over the last 4 months, I have been under an incredible amount of stress both at home and on my job. I have been amazed at what a toll this stress has been taking on my health...I really NEED to Oxycise! ....I find that I am actually craving the Oxycise! workout. I immediately feel better afterwards and all day." ~ Jackie Botsford
"...After the first two weeks I realized I didn't care if I lost any weight, I'd be doing Oxycise! for the rest of my life. My energy level doubled (I have four kids). My tolerance for stress quadrupled (I have one husband). My muscle tone improved (I'd been doing free weights for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week). My whole outlook on life was so much better. My family has a much happier mom and wife. I accidentally let Oxycise! slip for 6 months during a very difficult time and just started back again two weeks ago. I am back to my old euphoric self and can't praise Oxycise! enough." ~ Cindy
*** DEBBIE***
September 18, 2003
"Hi Julie and Jill,
This is my first time writing to you, but just wanted to tell of some of my experiences and progress. First off you can use my letter in your weekly newsletter if you wish.
"I (Debbie, age 47, 5ft 6 1/2" tall) learned about Oxycise! from an advertisement in a Sunday paper a few months back. It was the advertisement geared toward Seniors and anyone who was unable to get down on the floor due to weight or injuries. When I read the ad the first person I thought of was my Mom (June, age 72, 5 ft 3" tall). I said this would be something she could do. So I sent for the Oxycise! Easy Does It! Level One, which also included the Introduction Tape, Jill's fun, exciting and true book 'Oxycise!'
and the commuter tape.
"I received my Oxycise! introduction set and Mom and I started using the Easy Does It, Level One back in April. I read the book twice once to myself and again to my Mom (due to her eyesight, is hard for her to read printed material). What a fun and inspiring book, we laughed in places because it is so true, thank you Jill for a fun book. (Have since purchased 'Fuel for Success,' now when we eat we say 'Is this an A or B food?')
"Now for our progress. We started the Oxycise! exercise on April 22nd, 2003 and found it was something we enjoyed. I have since ordered the Easy Does It Levels 2 and 3, Buns and Thighs 1 and Abs and Upper body videos. Some mornings I just don't want a fast paced workout so I do the Easy Does It, and the other mornings I do the Buns and Thighs or Abs and Upper Body. I switch off each day. Mom likes the Easy Does It workouts, as they are more suited for her.
"I Oxycise! about 5 days a week, have been trying to encourage Mom to do them more often, but again it is hard for her to see the videos real clear, so I try to explain positions to her. We both wanted to lose about 20-25 pounds or a few inches, one or the other would be great, (just so that all those clothes hanging in the closet can be worn again). I was at 159 pounds and Mom was at about 156 at the beginning. Since April 22, 2003 I have lost 10 pounds and Mom has lost about 5 or 6 pounds. We have lost a few inches, not sure of the exact total, but clothes are not as tight as they were (I measure on the 22nd of every month, and weigh every morning.) Mom and I are on a race trying to get ahead of each other in the weight loss department. We have a talking scale, so we can't lie about what we weigh, because can be heard by anyone near.
"For the previous couple of years I had been doing weight bearing exercise, with 5-10 pound dumbbells, which I saw results in the muscle and toning also. I had lost 4 pounds in 3 months, without really changing my diet too much. So then I wanted to give Oxycise! a try without the weight bearing for a few months to see the difference. I lost 10 pounds in less then 5 months, but I did cut way back on things for my sweet tooth, and so has mom. Partly because our blood work shows we are in range for good glucose levels, but on the higher end, so we don't want to let that get out of hand. So why not lose weight and stay healthier at the same time. Also I believe Oxycise! has helped us both in keeping our blood pressure down...
"In the near future, I will probably be getting the regular Levels 1,2,3,4 and maybe the Buns and Thighs 2 workouts. A friend was real excited when my Mom told her about Oxycise! so I gave her an order blank and she has sent for it right away, she thinks it is something she can do compared to traditional exercise.
"Oh yes, I also Oxycise! when I am waiting at signals in the car.
"Thank you Julie and Jill, sorry this was so long, but wanted to let you know of our experience. I will keep you posted on our progress. I feel by losing the weight slow like this, and staying with Oxycise! that the weight will stay off..."
"Thanks again for a wonderful program."
*A* Does Oxycise! Provide an Aerobic Workout?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A customer wrote to us recently with a great progress report, and some great questions too!

Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003
Subject: Is Oxycise sufficient to give you a good aerobic workout?

"I have been doing Oxycise! for over a year now and am thrilled with the results. My weight loss has been 10+ pounds -- that doesn't sound like much but that was about all I really needed to lose. However, I have lost considerable inches from all parts of my body, especially hips and thighs.My arms, hips, and legs all look and feel trim and toned and my energy level has increased dramatically. This was not the case when I started Oxycise! I first saw this program on an info-mercial and quickly became interested. I teach science to 7th graders and we study about the importance of oxygen in the process of respiration which creates energy for the body at the cellular level. It made sense to me and I thought it might help my problem with fatigue. I was convinced that I had chronic fatigue syndrome or that something was terribly wrong. Wow, did Oxycise! take care of that problem. And my friends noticed my new look.

"With all of these positive benefits, some questions still remain. As I try to convince my friends that this is all they really need for an exercise and weight control program, the question of aerobics comes up. Does Oxycise! give you a sufficient aerobic workout? The second question concerns heart rate. Is it necessary to achieve a 'target heart rate' during an exercise work out and does Oxycise! incorporate this into the work out? I have not noticed an increase in heart rate during the work out, but perhaps it is because I am concentrating on the breathing technique. I am so pleased, however, with the results of Oxycise! that I plan to continue for the rest of my years to come. And thanks to Jill for creating such a wonderful program."

Robbie Allen
Spartanburg, South Carolina

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To answer Robbie's questions.... Yes!!!
Even the word "aerobic" means "in the presence of oxygen", or "requiring oxygen." Studies have shown that Oxycise! provides effective aerobic exercise. When compared to riding a stationary bike at 48% capacity, Oxycise! produced a 52.5% higher VO2/KG and 52% higher calorie burn. (VO2/KG is volume of oxygen consumed per kilogram of body weight and indicates how efficient one's body is in utilizing oxygen during exercise.) When compared to riding a stationary bike at 75% capacity, the VO2/KG with Oxycise! was still higher --by 12%! And the calorie burn was 14% higher! (See the book "Oxycise!" page 66). Oxycise! may look simple and effortless, but when it's done properly there's a lot happening inside your body!
In Jill's book "Chart Your Success" she discusses Target Heart Rate. For maximum fat-burning efficiency it's best to keep your heart rate within your "training zone". We've even had athletes comment that they are able to reach their training zone quickly when they do Oxycise! If your heart rate isn't reaching your "training zone," try adding more "gusto" and air volume. Really tighten and work your abdominal muscles as you do the Lift and make sure you are holding the Lift throughout the 3 sniffs, exhale and 3 extra puffs. Also be sure to use lots of energy in flexing and working your muscles as you do the body positions.
On the other hand, if you are feeling exhausted and your heart rate is too high, you should slow down or take things a little easier.
Comment from Jill:
"When I was measured... and the other subjects were measured [during tests] all of our heart rates went up to the 'training zone.' If you breathe very powerfully, the oxygen has to be delivered and your heart rate has to go up in order to deliver the oxygen. In traditional exercise (jogging, etc.) if your heart rate goes up, it is due to the fact that you are breathing hard, not because you are bouncing. Shaking your body does not increase your heart rate by jiggling the blood faster. If people want to measure their heart rate on an informational basis, that is fine. It can indicate whether or not they are breathing powerfully or not."
"Oxycise! improves your circulation and your resting heart rate when done regularly....One of the wonderful aspects of Oxycise! is that you can achieve cardiovascular improvement without the dangers of overexertion, such as pounding in your chest, dizziness, faintness or profuse sweating."
Feb. 13, 2001
"As a regular part of being a cancer survivor, I had a CT scan last week - all continues to go great! In fact, I don't have to go back for five months! After going to the doctor on a weekly (at least) basis for so long, that's like being fired as a patient - hooray! My blood work is better than it's ever been, and as he did last time, my oncologist busily wrote down everything I told him about my Oxycise! exercise program. My strength and flexibility continue to increase - this is truly an awesome program you've created. I also lost another 3 pounds without doing anything different.
"I've exercised all my life - whether it was ballet, gymnastics, running, cycling, the treadmill, etc. and have always enjoyed it immensely. But to tell you the truth, nothing has brought me the sheer exhilaration I feel after doing Oxycise! I truly look forward to doing Oxycise! several times every day and feel incredible afterwards. You have changed my life - not only strength and flexibility-wise, but my skin has never been softer. I've had several people tell me that I'm "glowing" - if you can do that after cancer, something awfully good must be going on. I attribute it to Oxycise! and the wonderful changes it's brought..."
"The reason that I love Oxycise! so much is that over 13 years ago I was in a car accident that left me with trauma to my muscles, tendons, ligaments, whip lash and a ruptured disk in my lower back. I was in pain and agony all of the time.
"I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. The doctor said that I had to do aerobics every day but I wasn't allowed to do sit-ups, so I tried just about everything that was out there. I own over 26 workout tapes that left me exhausted and still maintaining the weight of 163lbs. I always thought that aerobics meant running, jogging and jarring but after doing Oxycise! I realized I don't have to do any of that and I love how it makes me feel. I immediately slept better and my energy skyrocketed. The biggest part of my pain has subsided. I have lost and am maintaining a 40 lb weight loss since Oct/98. I went from a size 13 to a comfortable size 7. The benefits are endless.
"Oxycise! gives me everything that I need in a workout, all in 15 minutes a day. There is no more jarring on my bones, joints and back. I get a complete aerobic workout with a full body stretch, muscle toning and complete ab workout. No more sit-ups to irritate my lower back and neck.
"I am now 42 years old with a family and I feel happier and healthier then I have been in years! No other program has worked for me the way Oxycise! has and that is why I love it so much and do it every day. I look forward to doing Oxycise!"
May 2000
"I'm 46 and have been doing a daily aerobics routine for the past 18 years--running, walking, step-aerobics, NordicTrack, HealthRider, aerobic dance, whatever. (My basement is an exercise machine cemetery!) In February of this year I read about Oxycise in 'Woman's World' and decided to give it a try. My energy level was so low; I thought Oxycise! might give me a little more pep. I really didn't expect to lose much in the way of inches. I started feeling more energetic almost immediately. I continued with level one for a couple of weeks, and then decided to buy tapes 2 and 3. After doing tape 2 for a week or two, I noticed a definite change in the way my body looked and felt. Dramatic? Maybe not, but I'm very pleased with the results. I've been using tape 3 for the past few weeks, and have noticed that my body is becoming even more toned. Now I have all of the tapes plus the commuter tape, which I started using yesterday. It's a great energizer. I haven't used my latest exercise machine since February, although I've been careful to dust it once a week.
"Another added benefit: I'm sleeping better! Exercising in the morning has never worked for me, so I do my routine a couple of hours after dinner. The leaping/running/pedaling/stepping regimen gave me a 'second wind' I didn't really want. I'd go to bed every night feeling a little "wired." Oxycise, while invigorating, doesn't put me in overdrive. It actually has a bit of a calming effect--although that may sound like a paradox."
Oct 3, 2002
"Hi there! I'm doing great with Oxycise! - and yes, I do have an update. First off, as of now, I've lost 15 lbs, and an incredible number of inches - 5 off my hips, 3 off of each thigh, and almost 4 inches off my waist. After this, I knew that Oxycise! worked for weight loss - recently I put it to the ultimate acid test in terms of fitness.
"My decision to buy Oxycise! in the first place was motivated out of a desire to become more fit - as part of my larger plan, to get a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Of course, this seemed more than a little ambitious, considering I had always been totally averse to fitness in any form. Even running a few yards left me winded, I'm embarrassed to say. Oxycise! seemed like something even I could do.
I did Oxycise! exclusively for almost 3 months - and it was during that time that I saw my most dramatic losses. Recently, however, I incorporated a new - and extremely challenging - cardio/weight training routine into my fitness plan. Before I started I was worried that I'd be winded, that I wouldn't be able to do it - since after all, I'd never been able to do aerobics for more than 10 minutes at a time, before. But I felt like I was ready, so I tried it out. I am pleased to say that I easily did the entire 60 minute routine - very easily - and felt relaxed and invigorated at the end of it! I honestly wasn't prepared for the fact that Oxycise! would have this much of an effect on my system. However, I find that I can do long aerobic routines with ease, run a couple of miles with no problems, and feel happy at the end of it. I also find that I have a much easier time with weight training - it's easier for me to maintain proper form. and, of course, I am so flexible now! everyone's truly amazed.
"Although I am pursuing the more traditional exercise routine (I'm inching closer and closer to my black belt!) I still do Oxycise! at least 5 days a week. my weight loss has slowed down - which is reasonable - but I still do have 0.5 - 1lb losses per week, and I feel very energized and motivated to continue. I know that I would never have been able to get to where I am now, fitness-wise, without Oxycise! in my life. It gave me the stamina and the confidence, to continue. I am very thankful to Jill Johnson, and to everyone at this wonderful company, for making a terrific product."
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Cornelia M. Stutz
