"Stress Relief! For me, the weight loss is a side benefit! I first
ordered Oxycise! because I thought the stretching & breathing would be a
great stress-reliever; I didn't really think it would be effective in
weight loss. Well, I was half-right! It IS a great way to relax &
relieve stress, and oddly enough is also energizing. But guess what? It
has also helped me tone & lose weight!" ~ Lori
Here's some great information from the University of Iowa Student Health
website. The breathing techniques described here are very similar to
Oxycise!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Deep Breathing
One of the body's automatic reactions to stress is rapid, shallow
breathing and proper breathing is the antidote to stress. Breathing
slowly and deeply is one of the ways you can "turn off" your stress
reaction and "turn on" your relaxation response.
By inhaling deeply and allowing your lungs to breathe in as much oxygen
as possible, you can begin to relieve the tension that can lead to
negative stress. And, best of all, deep breathing can be done anywhere
at any time. Try to practice deep breathing for a few minutes three to
four times a day and whenever you begin to feel tense.
Inhale
Sit or stand (using good posture) and place your hands firmly and
comfortably on your stomach. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose,
letting your stomach expand as much as possible. Many people are
"backward breathers" -- they tend to tighten their stomachs when
breathing in. By placing your hands on your stomach, you can actually
feel when you are breathing properly.
When you've breathed in as much as possible, hold your breath for a few
seconds before exhaling
Exhale
With your hands on your stomach, exhale slowly through your mouth,
pursing your lips as if you were going to whistle. By pursing your lips,
you can control how fast you exhale and keep your airways open as long
as possible. As you exhale, your stomach deflates, while the large
muscle under your lungs (your diaphragm) expands. When your lungs feel
"empty", begin the inhale-exhale cycle again. Try to repeat this cycle
three to four times each session.
The website goes on to state:
"Deep breathing can relieve headaches, backaches, stomach aches, and
sleeplessness. It allows blood pressure to return to normal and releases
natural mood enhancers (endorphins) into the bloodstream. Use deep
breathing anytime, anywhere. It's one of the best overall techniques for
stress relief.
"When prehistoric humans were in danger of attack, their muscles tensed
and their breathing became rapid, as they prepared to run or fight.
Their high level of tension was a means of preparing their bodies for
optimum performance. Today, the causes of our 'stress' are different,
but our stress response is the same. However, since we're (usually) not
running or fighting, our tension has no release, so our stress response
builds. One way to counteract the stress response is to learn how to
breathe deeply and slowly - the opposite of how we breathe under
stress."
"Hi!
Am on my second week of O!. I spend about two weeks doing only the Basic
Breath, about 10 -15 reps a day. I have lost 9 cm (about 3.5 ") in these
past 3 weeks and I can't wait to pull out the measuring tape coming
Sunday. Weight has stayed the same but I figured that I'm replacing fat
with muscle so I will shrink and not necessarily lose the weight right
away.
"Made myself a promise: to look hot by summer and it looks like I'm
going to keep that promise."
I wrote to Brigitte and invited her to tell us more about her.
"Hey Julie,
Sure, it'll be fun to read about myself in the newsletter. I can say
that after 2 weeks of doing O! I have shrunk again.
"I'm 33 year old single woman and have steadily gained weight since
college. I've never been a skinny girl, but right now I wouldn't mind
being the size I was when I started college.
"I like taking long walks and after a vacation in Ireland I came home
with painful knees. My doctor told me to lose some weight. I weighted 75
kilo's that time. I've seen the scale go to 80 kg. That would be about
178 lbs. I tried different things, but never seem to be able to stick
with the program. When I read about Oxycise! I decided to give it
another try. In the worst case I'd be stuck with another book.
"So far I have done 2 weeks of Oxycise! with 30 reps a day. Before that
I started out with just doing the Basic Breath for maybe 10 or 15 reps a
day. After 2 weeks of doing just that I had lost inches (in my case
centimeters). I'm going on week 3 and it feels great. It's the first
time I started with exercise and actually enjoyed doing it. The best
part is that I don't have to do it in one session. I do 10 reps when I
get ready for work in the morning, 10 reps when I get home and another
10 before I take a shower at night.
"Even though I don't look skinny (yet), I feel skinny. Very recently I
was told that I'm no longer needed on the project I'm working on. It
gave me visions of eating bags of chips, just to stop that feeling of
not being wanted. Instead I went shopping, did my repetitions of O! and
had only a bar of chocolate. Yeah me!
"All the support on the meeting board and the succes stories keep me
going. I feel that I have finally found something that I can stick to.
Can't wait to go shopping for smaller clothes."
"Dear Julie,
I've been using Oxycise! for almost 3 years now and I'm still loving it
and the results.
"A few weeks ago I came across a tip in a self-help article that I've
incorporated into my daily Oxycise! and it has improved not only my
workouts but my frame of mind and spirit.
"The man who wrote this article said that when something upsetting is
going on in your life to sit quietly in a chair and deep breathe in and
at the same time think "ACCEPTING" and breathe out thinking "RELEASE."
The next morning when I was Oxycising there was something heavy on my
heart so I tried thinking "ACCEPTING" while deep breathing in and
"RELEASING" while breathing out. It helped so much and felt so good that
every day I use this technique while Oxycising. I sometimes think
"accepting God's love" and then "releasing anger and hatred" or whatever
comes to my mind that I think I need to work on. Because I gained some
weight over the past several months, this morning I thought "accept my
body" and "release self-hatred" because I have been upset with myself
for allowing this weight gain. So later on when I went to my closet and
put on my tight jeans I didn't put myself down but actually accepted
myself knowing that in a few weeks they are going to be loose again.
"I feel that I'm getting a better workout because I'm really motivated
to breathe in as much of God's love (or whatever positive I'm breathing
into myself) and to rid as much negative as I can. The breathing has
become so much more powerful because there's more motivation behind it.
"I have never written in before now but I feel compelled to share this
tip in the hope that others will find it helpful. Thank you for your
program! I am smaller now than I was when I ran 3-6 miles every day or
biked 30-60 miles or mountain biked or anything else I did."
With much gratitude,
"Just the act of smiling as I breathe gives me a sense of well-being."
~ Karen
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*A* SMILE!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Jill teaches Oxycise! she always reminds her students to SMILE!
Jill explains that smiling, while doing the Oxycise! inhale, helps open
the nostrils for better breathing. It also exercises and gives
definition to your facial muscles. But there's even more to smile about
-- it's good for you!
Smiling has been shown to trigger the release of mood-elevating
endorphins in the body -- natural "feel good" chemicals that are
involved in pain control, pleasure, and feelings of peace and
well-being. Smiling has also been shown to reduce cortisol levels in the
body. Cortisol is secreted by the adrenal glands in response to stress.
(It's interesting that much research has linked oversecretion of
cortisol with obesity and increased fat storage in the body.)
Did you know that even a FAKE smile produces endorphins? Scientist have
found that when you put on a happy face, your body can't tell the
difference between a forced smile and the real thing -- and responds as
if the expression were genuine!
Here are some more facts about smiling:
Even a newborn shows a preference for a smiling face over a non-smiling
face.
Women smile more than men
Younger people smile more than older people.
A smiling person is judged to be more pleasant, attractive, sincere,
sociable, and competent than a non-smiling person.
Many people believe that smiling and laughing can boost the immune
system and have a positive effect on medical therapies and treatment of
disease.
These are all reasons to smile.
"But best of all," says Jill, "smiling is a reminder of how great you
feel for doing Oxycise! and taking control of your body."
We apologize for the temporary shut-down of our website Message Board
and hope that our host will have it up and running again very soon!
Thank you for your patience!
"Dear Julie, Jill and all the Oxycise! Constituents and Enthusiasts:
This is partly a forward of an email and cc to my cousin and my oldest
son. After re-reading what I had written to them, I realized that you
all might like my addition to read on 'Chat'...
"I am 78 years of age, have taught piano for over 55 years and supported
my family until they became adults and parents in their own right; have
led a sedentary lifestyle for the most part, since I haven't got out
much to meet new friends since moving to the northwest 14 years ago. I
moved north from Carmel, CA where one can walk safely all around the
mile square village, to the Seattle area, where I don't feel happy going
out alone at night, and the weather is not conducive to walking much of
the time.
"My girlfriends are all in their forties, mostly mothers of my piano
students, and have husbands who need them at home in the evenings. I
feel very much at home with all of them, in fact, feel more their age
than my own. I don't, however, feel 'at home' with my physical self
since gaining enough to need size 18-20! I've always found it very
natural and easy to do things for others, to care for others and to
spend time and money on others; but it has not been my way concentrate
on what I need. Since finding Oxycise! on TV, and sending for the Level
1 tapes, book and commuter tape, things are changing, as you see above,
and as I train myself to remember to breathe each time I sit or stand
still, I have lost pounds, lost the tendency to yawn a lot, begun to
tighten and found more inspiration to do fun things for myself.
"Thanks so much for the great new start! I've always known that, as
Shakespeare said, 'As we think, so are we.' Well, thinking 'Breeaatthhe...'
adds the frosting--ooops!...delight--to the cake of life!"
Gratefully,
PJ Scott
"In the December 5, 2003 OxyChat Newsletter, you ran a progress update
on a message I had sent you regarding Oxycise! and my blood sugar level.
During my physical last July, my blood sugar level was high and my
doctor challenged me to lose 10 pounds or go on diabetes medication. I
began Oxycising every day and in my three month check-up had lost 10
pounds and my blood sugar level had dropped to the normal range. I just
had my second three month check-up and have lost an additional three
pounds and my blood sugar level is still in the normal range. My doctor
told me he didn't see any reason for any diabetes medication and
encouraged me to 'keep up the good work.' Even though I didn't lose as
much during the second three months, I still have noticed a reduction in
body size. My wife, Mary, who Oxycises every day also, says that she is
beginning to see a 'defined' waistline on me now!
"I love Oxycise! because it doesn't take long every day, it is not
strenuous, and I always feel good afterwards. I would encourage anyone
to give it a try. It has certainly worked for me (and continues to)."
Thanks.
"In 2 months' time I have lost 9" and the sort of haggard look that was
reflected in my mirror is also gone! I do the exercises every day and
will definitely continue because the benefits and rewards are so great.
Weight-wise I haven't lost much, but that isn't important to me, as long
as I see something (whether it is the scale or the tape measure) for my
efforts. As a woman in the throes of menopause, weight reduction is
very difficult. So when I see the numbers go down, I am ecstatic, to say
the least! Jill's program is the best." ~ Janice
*A* Oxycise! and Menopause
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just yesterday I received an email from Jean, who asked:
"Do you have files on women that have written in that are in menopause
that I could read to get some encouragement? It seems impossible to
lose since I started menopause."
In response to Jean's question, I did a search through my email files
and found that we did indeed have several comments from customers who
have reported successful weight and/or inch loss with Oxycise! in spite
of menopause. For Jean and others who may be interested, I have
compiled these comments into a new webpage, and will include a few
excerpts here. If any of you out there have experienced positive
results using Oxycise! during menopause, and would like to add your own
comments to this new webpage, we would love to hear from you! (write to

"About 15 years ago I changed my eating habits to a more balanced,
livable one and stopped when I was satisfied, not stuffed, and lost 75

can't lose those extra pounds that seem to have attached themselves to
my midriff section. I watched your infomercial three times before I
ordered the product. I LOVE IT... I am telling EVERYONE about this
incredible program. Why would anyone want to sweat when they can get
such a total workout in 15 minutes a day??????????"
Deborah says,
"A year ago, I had breast surgery. It turned out well, but one of the
medications to battle its re-occurrence is an estrogen-blocker. I
immediately hit menopause, and the weight started back up.
"I've been happily doing my daily Oxycising (Level 1) for 15 weeks.
I've not altered my eating, and even taking the medication, I've lost 6"
around the waist and 5-1/2" around the hips. AND IT'S JUST 15 MINUTES A
DAY!"
"...I'm excited--I think I've hit upon a program I can live with."
Barbara writes,
"I have been doing Oxy! for 2 1/2 years - most of the time, being
consistent. Now I am "reaping the benefits." Even though I am at a
difficult time in my life with Menopause, I am determined that I can
control my weight, toning and stomach!! I am 58 years old but I am
proud to say that I am down one size. I have lost some weight, but more
importantly, I have lost inches - especially hips and waist."
As these women have discovered, Oxycise! can help you make the "change
of life" a change for the better!
"I got the first Oxycise! video, book and cassette in May of 2003. I
did it on and off until after Thanksgiving and then finally started
doing it regularly. I was still not getting the results I thought I
should. After Christmas, I got Level 2, Level 3, Buns & Thighs 1, and
Abs and Upper Body. I finally realized that part of my problem was not
relaxing my abs enough between breaths. I gradually started noticing my
body firming up. I wasn't losing weight and I never did measure my
inches. In mid February my son was admitted to the hospital so I didn't
Oxycise! that week at all but probably because of the stress I lost some
weight. When I came back home, I started doing Oxycise! again
regularly. All of a sudden it was like a miracle had happened to my abs
(even my husband noticed and said something). I had always had a belly
even when I was at my proper weight. I still have a very small roll
that came after I gave birth to my children but it is shrinking all the
time. It really helped me a lot to get the 4 videos after Christmas. I
get bored really easy when I don't have variety with my workout. I am
just so excited that something has finally solved my flabby abs problem
without hurting myself in the process. I still have the Ab slide that I
used maybe 5 times since I got it because my abs were too weak to use
it. I donated it to my 7 year old son because he like to play with it.
Thanks Oxycise!"

*A* Be Good to Yourself!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every week at the end of the newsletter, we include the quote from Jill,
"Remember: You have a magnificent body. Treat it right!" Not only is it
important to treat your body right -- by doing Oxycise! -- it's also
important to take care of the person inside -- YOU!
You wouldn't think of giving constant criticism to a friend, yet how
many times a day do we "beat ourselves up" with negative messages? I
challenge you to be more aware of the almost subconscious "self-talk"
you carry on with yourself every day. Are you giving yourself mostly
positive feedback -- or insults? Don't allow yourself to be unkind to
the "person in the mirror!" I know of a teacher who taught a class about
building self-esteem. She assigned her students to go home and say at
least 10 positive things about themselves every day while looking in the
mirror. I encourage each of you to try it... and make it a habit!
Most of us are pretty hard on ourselves. We tend to compare our worst
traits with other peoples' best. And people who have weight problems
tend to be especially critical of themselves. So be kind. Think of some
people you love and care about -- do you love them only because they are
handsome or beautiful, or physically fit, or because they have
well-toned muscles, or because they are thin and cellulite-free? A
little ridiculous, yes? Then why do we judge our own worth by those
standards?
Your body IS one of your most valuable possessions. So wanting to make
improvements is great! And taking good care of it will help you have a
longer and happier and healthier life. But remember to be kind to the
valuable person inside.
Oxycise! is one of the best things you can do for your body. It can also
do great things for your self-esteem and sense of well-being. When you
take positive steps to take care of your body, it helps you feel better
physically AND emotionally.
"REMEMBER: You are a magnificent, important, unique person. Treat
YOURSELF right!"
"I'm still Oxycising--with many wonderful results. I haven't reached my
goal weight yet. I didn't have a ton to lose in the first place--about
15 lbs. So far I have lost half of that. I haven't lost lbs in a couple
of months, but the inches are still slowly moving down. I love how I'm
firming up. My energy went from zilch to practically soaring. I used to
be a dress size 12. Now I'm between an 8 and a 10 (actually closer to
8!) My jeans are size 8, relaxed fit, and a bit loose. I am so grateful
for Oxycise, but sticking with any exercise program has always been a
failure. I'm sure that I've been able to stick with this because of
results and because of the message room. It keeps me focused!"
What a joy to hear from you. I had intended to write a couple weeks from
you. Yes, we're still at it and doing well. There was a period of
several weeks when I was unable to exercise, and I really missed it. I
on starting again. Also, of course, it's so much easier to maintain a
stable weight. This came in handy over the Christmas holidays. I
"Roger and I intend to stay on this program as long as we are able. The
benefits for both of us are enormous, and it's so simple to do. We
especially good for my legs. Roger just breathes and does those reps he
can comfortably do. Roger had another birthday since I last wrote. He's
*A* Fat Meltdown!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My daughter, Tracey, age 23, just recently started doing Oxycise!
regularly. Yesterday she sent me an email update on her progress:
"Guess what? Last night at work, somebody said, 'Wow, you look smaller!
What've you been doing?'
"Yeehaw! I've been weighing myself every day, and the scale hasn't
changed, but my pants are considerably looser, so I know I'm losing
something."
She added,
"my abdominal muscles are much more firm than they've ever been-- it's
crazy-- and I've only been doing Oxycise! for two weeks."
Tracey mentioned that she thought it was strange that the fat that is
left on her tummy and "love handle" area seems to be much softer. I
told her that I noticed the same thing when I lost weight -- as if the
fat on my body was turning into jello. It seemed to get soft and
squishy as it slowly disappeared!
Does fat actually getting softer as we begin to lose weight? Or is it
just that the muscles are getting harder and so the fat only seems
softer by comparison? I honestly don't know the answer, but several
other customers have commented that it seemed like the areas of fat on
their bodies got softer, and in some cases cellulite got even more
"lumpy" in appearance when they started doing Oxycise! But they also
said that everything smoothed out as they continued to do Oxycise! and
burn off fat and inches.
I wanted to mention this softening effect, just in case anyone else out
there is seeing similar effects and feeling worried!
(Readers, if you have experienced a softening or "melting" of fat as you
have toned and tightened your body, please share your experience with
us!)
"My daughter has ordered all of Oxycise's videos. Seven weeks ago she
gave the Level 1 tape to me. My husband and I started do it every day.
Also we started to seriously watch our weight. The first 2 weeks we each
lost 4-5 pounds and then I fell and broke my leg. The next day my
daughter said that was no excuse to stop our program. That was the
impetus we needed. I am having to adapt some of them, but at least I am
doing what I can and my husband is sticking with it too. He has lost
over ten pounds (only needs to lose ten more) and all of us can see the
difference in his "pot belly". He never had one until he retired. We are
hooked. We can hardly wait until we can move to the next level. I know
it is helping me feel better physically and emotionally. Thanks for the
videos and I certainly thank my daughter for talking us into starting
this and also for checking on us to make sure we don't get
discouraged."

November 2003 Update:
"It is now 4 months later and we are still with the program. My cast is
gone, but I am receiving physical therapy to help my ankle. I'm not
losing weight, but I have lost a full size in all my clothes and my
husband is wearing pants he wore 2 years ago. We have also added weight
lifting to our program because I have a problem with my muscles. (They
are very weak). I have progressed from 3 lbs. to 10 lbs. I love Oxycise!
because it makes me feel good. My daughters say my attitude and moods
have improved so much. It hasn't helped my cholesterol but it has helped
my blood sugar return to a normal level. Thank you so much for your
program."

muscle weighs more than fat so it makes sense that I may not "lose
weight". I guess I want to lose that weight too! I do the exercises

suggestions??"
Cheryl
Feb 2004 Update:
"I've lost another 3 pounds. My waist is still 33" but my abs have gone
down another 1-1/2" now 35-1/2". Not the fastest weight loss but I'm
satisfied. I started Buns and Thighs a few weeks ago so I expect things
to burn off faster. Still, this is a lifetime commitment - exercise,
that is. I am not concerned as much with the fat loss as I know that
will come with time and better overall health habits. My tummy is
flatter than it has been in many years ( I've had 9 children, the
youngest being a bit over a year old). I am super happy about how
things are going. I have the Oxycise! habit now. Sure I might miss a
day or two from time to time but hey, I never knew getting fit and
feeling younger could be so easy!
