“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of “The Little Prince”)
Christmas is a time of beautiful sights — of candles and glitter and sparkle and lights! Yet some of the most beautiful things about this season are not seen with our eyes; Things like the beautiful inner glow that is part of the season…. Christmas joys and memories, kind deeds given and received, and feelings of compassion and caring and love.
In the same way, the most beautiful things about people — including YOU — are the things that can’t be seen. Sometimes we forget this truth.
As we pursue the quest for better health and a more fit and shapely body, may we also seek for the kind of beauty that can’t be seen with the eyes. The following thoughts were written by Audrey Hepburn, when she was asked to share her “beauty tips.” They were read at her funeral years later.
~~~~~~~~~~
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.
May you have eyes to “see” the inner beauties in yourself and others! And may the coming year bring you happiness, peace, and the joy of a healthier, stronger body. Merry Christmas to all!
