With the arrival of each new year, millions of people resolve to become more physically fit, give up bad habits and change their lives for the better. Unfortunately, many of these well-laid plans fall by the wayside within days or weeks…what happens? Are the goals too lofty? Or maybe just our expectations?
Most of us know what we would like to improve in our lives. And we probably know exactly what we need to do to make it happen. But it takes real effort to make any kind of change — even if it’s a change for the better. It’s human nature to hang on to old habits and to be impatient about waiting for results. Once we do decide to make a “once and for all change,” we tend to want results NOW–or at least by next week! When we fail to see instant fruit from our labors, we often get discouraged and quit trying.
To make any kind of permanent lifestyle change, it’s very important to make small, daily efforts (with the end in mind) and be realistic and patient with ourselves and our progress. We need to allow for (and plan for) temporary failures and setbacks and have the courage to just keep trying.
Some people start out with great enthusiasm in pursuit of a new goal…but they may run faster than they are able, feverishly working themselves into a frenzy. Within a few days or weeks, they may be totally burned out. What happened? It’s not that the goal wasn’t attainable…but it’s important to be realistic and we need to proceed at a pace we can maintain.
Before you embark on that quest for a lifestyle change, plan the journey, taking into account the “distance” and “travel time.” This means taking a realistic look at where you are and where you want to be. Decide what needs to happen on a daily basis in order for you to move slowly but surely toward your goal. Then take one step at a time. Put your plan into action. Then evaluate your progress: Are your behaviors consistent with your desires? Are your daily actions in line with your original plan? Are your expectations reasonable? How can you do even better tomorrow/next week?
Think big, but work small — one day at a time. The great thing is that small daily changes will lead to big results as those days stretch into weeks and months. Just look how fast the year 2016 flew by… and think where you could be a year from now if you just make a few little positive changes every day.
Pursuing a goal is kind of like setting out to climb a huge mountain. If you start out trying to RUN up the mountain you will wear yourself out physically and emotionally before you get very far. But if you plan your assault and take one step at a time, one day at a time, preparing for the possibility of poor weather and other setbacks, you are much more likely to reach the summit. And you’ll enjoy the climb much more if you try to find enjoyment in the journey. Notice the changes in altitude…breathe in the fresh air (definitely!)…stop and smell the wildflowers. In other words, you need to realize that it’s going to take some time to reach the top, so you may as well enjoy the climb!
If your goal is to have a healthier, slimmer body, keep your eyes on that goal, that “summit in the clouds.” In fact, start mentally writing your very own Oxycise! Success Story! But also pace yourself, evaluate your progress, and stay determined. Don’t give up halfway up the mountain just because you suddenly realize that you still have a long way to go. Instead, look back and see how far you’ve come!! And if you happen to lose your footing and slide backwards a little, don’t despair. Just get up and keep going. Climbing a mountain–or reaching a goal–is hard work! But the view from the summit–and the sense of accomplishment–is unbeatable!
It is our hope that before you set out to pursue your goals, that you will first sit back and plan out your journey. If your goal is to lose excess fat and have a more slender, healthy body, then Oxycise! can help you get there. Your task will be to plan HOW you will implement the Oxycise! program into your own life, and then to put your plan into action on a daily basis. Day by day, step by step, you will move closer and closer to your destination!
May all your dreams come true…one day at a time!
