New Goals for a New Year
With the arrival of each new year, millions of people resolve to become more physically fit, give up bad habits and change their lives for the better. Unfortunately, many of these well-laid plans fall by the wayside within days or weeks. Why? What happens?
Pursuing a goal is kind of like setting out to climb a huge mountain. If you start out trying to RUN up the mountain you will wear yourself out physically and emotionally before you get very far. But if you plan your attack and take one step at a time, one day at a time, preparing for the possibility of poor weather and other setbacks, you are much more likely to reach the summit. And you’ll enjoy the climb much more if you try to find enjoyment in the journey. Notice the changes in altitude…breathe in the fresh air (definitely!)…stop and smell the wildflowers. In other words, you need to realize that it’s going to take some time to reach the top, so you may as well enjoy the climb!
If your goal is to have a healthier, slimmer body, keep your eyes on that goal, that “summit in the clouds.” In fact, start mentally writing your very own Oxycise! Success Story! But also pace yourself, evaluate your progress, and stay determined. Don’t give up halfway up the mountain just because you suddenly realize that you still have a long way to go. Instead, look back and see how far you’ve come!! And if you happen to lose your footing and slide backwards a little, don’t despair. Just get up and keep going.
Climbing a mountain–or reaching a goal–is hard work. But the view from the summit–and the sense of accomplishment–is unbeatable!
