Toxins can be hidden in our food or water, in the building materials our homes are made from, and even our clothing. Toxins affect all parts of the body, but we only notice the effect once our system has already been compromised and we have started to show symptoms such as high blood pressure, heart problems, fatigue, or weight gain.
There are many fads out there for detoxing, but we often forget that the body is equipped with a detoxification system of its own: The respiratory system.
Dr. Whiting shared some of the science behind it in his book, “You Can Be Well At Any Age: Your Definitive Guide to Vibrant Health & Longevity.”
“Each of the 100 trillion cells that make up your body are, in reality, individual living systems enveloped in an outer coating called a cell membrane, which keeps the living unit in tact. Cleansing the individual cells of the body requires the use of a substance that is able to not only permeate the membrane of the living cells, but the many other protective barriers the body has in place as well. One of the more difficult barriers to penetrate is the blood/brain barrier. This is designed to prevent harmful substances that have entered the internal environment of the body from being carried by the blood, into the brain. This mechanism will allow only a specific, finite number of substances through. If we want to also cleanse and detoxify the brain tissue, we need to choose a medium that will travel freely throughout the body, to every cell.
“There are two substances which fit this description and both exercise a powerful potential cleansing and detoxification mechanism upon both cells and organ systems of the body. So important is one of these elements, rightfully called the ‘universal detoxifier’, we cannot live in its absence for more than a few minutes. The substance is, of course, oxygen.”
Oxygen is the universal cleanser. It breaks down the thousands of potentially harmful toxins in our bodies to be eliminated. Increasing oxygen in the blood stream is the single greatest method of cleansing every cell of the body. Circulation of clean, oxygen-carrying blood is a basic requirement for optimum health.
Most people wouldn’t guess they are deficient in oxygen; yet many of us are, and have been for years. In our sedentary society, very few people have the opportunity to really fill their lungs with oxygen. This sedentary lifestyle, especially as we age, provides less than optimal oxygenation, and therefore detoxification, of the blood and body tissues.
Oxygen also helps your body absorb vitamins and nutrients more efficiently, and it actually creates more white blood cells, helping to speed up the process of out-with the-old, in-with-the-new inside your system. But that doesn’t mean you need to buy oxygen supplements or go to an oxygen bar. Instead, remember your daily Oxycise!
